Artist Statement

I choose to paint portraits because of the inherent challenge in capturing the essence of a person in paint. I also recognize that in reality this essence is often obscured by the characters we choose to portray. Because of this all of my figures are in disguise.

No direct narrative is provided, forcing the viewer to explore the interaction between figure and object. Are these portraits defined by personality or possession?

My portraits also create a conversation between figure and viewer. Some are making eye contact, drawing you in deeper, while others are distracted by something hidden. All are asking questions, leaving the viewer to provide answers.
